Customer Critiques

I have some of the identical feelings as "D. Hull" in his review. I had usually wanted a RC helicopter, but found them to be too costly till lately. And then I found the Spy Hawk RC LT-711 RC helicopter. When I bought this, I believed the built in digital camera with mini-SD card that can be activated through remote was a genius notion. It was a sleek searching helicopter with a camera, lights, and the price tag was amazing. It looked too wonderful to be accurate...and it was. Here are my observations from my experience in the few days I have had this.
1) The instruction manual is the worst 1 I have ever observed...EVER. It was written in broken English and is riddled with grammatical errors and other statements that just make no sense. To start with, it is a compact leaflet with 8 pages, 2 of which are photos of spare parts (but, of course, there is no directions on how to really replace any parts should some thing break). Where's the rest? This manual is awfully skimpy for a RC helicopter with a camera. Here are a couple of gems, but there are a lot a great deal more. I am not working with poor grammar right here. These are direct quotes from the instruction manual:
-"Notice: When the airplane is away from the ground in 30cm position, the helicopter will suffer by itself blade vortex to come to be unstable, we call it 'effect response', when the helicopter height lower, and the 'effect response' influence will be bigger."
-"Notice: When the indicator of the controller is sparkle, which shows the controller is lack of energy. And you can adjust some batteries for it."
There are also parts labeled in the instruction manual in which there is no explanation or instruction supplied, such as the "voltage indicator" on the remote and "2 speed mode" button. How do these perform? Who knows? The instruction manual doesn't tell you.
The instruction manual also indicates this helicopter is for ages 14+, but the box clearly says ages 8+. This sort of discrepancy need to never ever exist, but in my individual opinion, I would not give this to an 8 year old.
two) The digital camera does not operate reliably. I got it to record a handful of seconds of test video, but following placing the mini SD card back in the helicopter, it only recorded a blank file. For each 5 of 6 blank files it would record, the camera would essentially record 1 video, only to go back to developing blank files.
3) Battery capacity is inconsistent. The instruction manual says "Do not charge more than 60-70 minutes". To me, that suggests following 70 minutes of charging and then unplug it from the charger. Proper? Will failure to do so damage the battery? I do not know. Once again, the instruction manual doesn't say. There is an indicator light that goes from red to green when the battery is finished charging. 1 time, it showed it was charged right after about 70 to 75 minutes of charging. The result? The helicopter's battery provided about 2 minutes of flying time. The following charge, it took 2 hours until the battery indicated it was charged. That time, the helicopter flew for about one minute, but couldn't be controlled in the air. The propellers would just spin and the helicopter wouldn't get off the ground once again right after I landed it.
3) The helicopter is really hard to manage outside. It was a sunny day, 54 degrees and no wind. Forward and reverse controls did small to manage the motion of the helicopter.
I have followed what small instructions were supplied and haven't crashed the helicopter in the little time it basically flew. But following only a couple of flights, it isn't recording video, has an inconsistent and unreliable battery charging system and battery capacity. And, worse but, the helicopter now won't even get off the ground.
If this had been a reliable product that did what was advertised and had a extra thorough and understandable instruction manual, I would be happy to own this helicopter and advise it to other people.
I will be returning this helicopter and I welcome anyone's suggestions for a far more dependable item.

I'll echo fairly substantially what the other evaluations stated. The instruction manual was written by a person in China that hasn't passed English 101. Beyond that, I went ahead and charged the battery until the charger light turned green (which took about 1.5hrs). The initially flight was fairly enjoyable. I did not have any problems receiving the camera to operate.
Problem is, just after I recharged the battery, the thing won't get off the ground. Now I am operating with the seller to return/exchange the item.
Bottom line. An RC helo isn't much enjoyable if it does not leave the ground.
