Costumer Critiques
I purchased this toy for my son and myself, and I should say I have been well pleased with its construction, durability and functionality. The toy has taken a number of hard crashes into buildings, concrete, and trees -- so its tuff, damn tuff, but how nicely does it fly? Firstly, its a great deal more a potent bird as compared to any of the smaller battery powered helicopters I have previously purchased or observed. It flies high, 100 feet and it requires a lot of space to really enjoy flying it. You can fly it in the backyard, but I find I spend more time worrying about crashing it into the house than honestly getting fun.
The gyro's maintain the copter level and supply pinpoint turning -- Which means that It spins about though hovering in mid-air. The flight challenge is to keep the copter's hight steady, though moving the copter forward. Once again, turning is not an concern, its balancing the hight and forward direction that is difficult. 1 reviewer talked about that it will not fly forward or backward on the other hand this is not the case. Following a handful of days of practice both my 9 year old and I could pilot the copter reasonably well. I got about 15 minutes of flying time for every hour of charging. With the high mastering curve this can make for some frustration. Is it worth acquiring? Yeah, its enjoyable, and my son and I got a major kick out of it -- in particular at night as it lights up! But, personally I wondered if it may possibly not be worth it to devote a little more dollars and buy a bigger copter that is easer to fly.
Bottom Line: This copter is fun, sturdy, will and could well satisfy your wants -- if you put some time in mastering to fly it.
Very first R/C helicopter I've ever owned -- not new to the R/C scene, even though (and I have a very good understanding of how genuine helicopters fly and operate). It took me a little acquiring put to use to (hence the "difficult for beginners" comment), but simple and easy to master (hence the "quick for intermediates" comment).
A lot of the other critiques have covered most of the matters -- right here are my extra thoughts:
- Flies fairly nicely perfect out of the box -- regularly demands to be trimmed on the rotational axis and, as somebody else noted, keeping height/hover manage is a bit challenging.
- The Quick/Slow toggle switch is good for controlling your speed indoors (use the Slow setting). I've however to fly this outdoors (darned winter...mid-December 2010 as I write this), so haven't truly tried the Swift setting. It does appear to fly noticeably quicker in the Speedy setting.
- Only real negative that I've encountered so far (prevented this from receiving a full 5-star rating in my book) is that the top quality control is a touch lacking -- 1 of the wires soldered onto the On/Off switch came loose on the 2nd flight, requiring me to have to re-solder the wire (and asking for my wife's support, as it was truly a 3-hand operation).
And it looks like I got a deal, the price tag seems to have gone up by about $20 due to the fact I bought it!
